Pre-production got delayed a bit
Website first
Last time I started with pre-production. For personal reasons, I felt like I had to finally finish the website first. Or at least get it to a point where it does not scream under construction quite as much anymore.
I completely restructured the content and the sitemap, and ended up writing over 10,000 words. I genuinely do not know when the last time was that I yapped this much XD
The website is "done" for now
I am really happy with how the banner turned out.
The other elements on the homepage are fine for now too, but I still feel like they do not connect that well together. They kind of feel thematically disconnected in some weird way.
Still, like I said before: at least it no longer looks totally under construction. So for now, I am calling that part finished.
Picking pre-production back up
That means I can finally get back to the pre-production part now.
Last time I said that doing blockouts in Godot is awesome. And that is still true.
What I am noticing right now, however, is a massive skill issue on my part.
I am trying to do multiple things at once. As always.
First of all, I am trying to create a believable layout inside the building. So I keep thinking about how a real building like this would actually be structured. But that usually results in symmetry and very boring pathways.
Realism vs. fun
At the same time, I am trying to take that realistic structure and twist it into something that is actually fun to move through and explore.
And I feel like that currently gives me the worst of both worlds.
It is not realistic enough to feel convincing, but also not stylized enough to feel intentionally designed. So right now I am kind of stuck in that awkward middle ground where nothing fully works.
That said, I will keep pushing through it.
Once the blockout is in a state worth showing, I will post it of course.
Probably together with some of the drawings and iterations that led to the final result, because I think that part could actually be pretty interesting too.
At least to me it always is. Sometimes the path towards the result is more interesting than the result itself (which is why I am even writing this)
