Level blockout, corridors and cafeteria

Still on it

About one month has passed since the latest update. I'm still on it, don't worry. Just not quite at the pace I would like.

Last time I roughly laid out what helped me get this whole thing rolling. Since this is the first level of this kind that I am trying to design, it is still hard to know where to start and how to progress properly.

From bare blockout to something more useful

The state the level was in last month was basically just the bare blockout if your remember.

Just the first iteration of the path the player would roughly take when traversing the level without any real structure yet. Without any interesting alternative routes and no real feeling at all.

Right now, I am working toward expanding the first version to include more of the structure, feeling and alternative routes that were missing. Adding meaningful details that change the feeling of an area, adding verticality and so on without having the real assets or final details.

Corridors and cafeteria progress

For now, I am quite fond of the corridors and the basic structure of the cafeteria, which wasn't present before.

The cafeteria especially helped a lot I think. It gives the whole layout a bit more identity and also opens up the possibility for an optional path upstairs later.

Here are some screenshots.

Dark grey blockout corridor with a central ceiling light and narrow wall openings on both sides.
Bright grey blockout area showing a larger cafeteria-like space with windows, columns and layered ceiling shapes.

Project cleanup and versioning

I also spent some time reorganizing my project.

The first project was more like "trying to get to know Godot", in which I also started developing the actual game, which is not the cleanest foundation.

So now it is cleaned up and versioned.

However, this also results in me trying to maintain standards while still looking for ways to optimize the structure for myself. I already refactored the project like three times :X

I'm sure I'll stick with something that scales well someday. Hopefully.

This takes longer than expected

I didn't think this would consume so much of my time, to be honest.

But I guess that is normal if you are trying to do something right without being good at it yet.
